I wanted you all to be among the first to know that today I filed to run for the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) Board of Trustees, Position 3. I am energized by the mounting Blue Wave in Harris County and throughout Texas, and so I wanted to do my part by contributing to the choice of candidates that voters will have this March. As a Democrat who has worked “in the trenches” for countless candidates through out the last three decades, served as precinct chair for almost 25 years, and is a sustaining member of our county party, my Democratic credentials are rock solid.
My commitment to improving the Northside community has expanded from my early involvement with HCC and HISD, to my present work with Aldine ISD and Lone Star College. I currently serve as Co-Chair of the North Harris County Education Alliance and as Chair-elect of the Aldine Education Foundation, but my service on the advisory councils’ of HCC Northeast and HISD’s North District years ago still guides my service today.
I support the important services that HCDE provides, and I will work to expand critical educational services to address the needs of our diverse and growing community. I will demand that HCDE administration manage resources to get the most of every taxpayer dollar and will not be afraid to recommend cuts when and where appropriate. Most of all, I want to serve to ensure that HCDE continues the tradition of service to some of the most vulnerable members of our community through the Alternative Education, Afterschool Services, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and Therapeutic Services.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts about this campaign and specifically about how we can improve the Harris County Department of Education for the good of our community.
Thank you for your encouragement and the support.
